Article 1: What Kinds of Messages Help Kids Grow?

I liked this article because it good points that every parent should read. With a simple replacement of a generic praise with process praise, significant differences can be noticed in the child's mindset and success in the future. This article also commented on incorporating the word 'yet' into the child's vocabulary. I can see how this would instantly help kids change their mindset and see challenging tasks as obtainable in the future.

Article 2: Be a Mirror

This article mostly applied to the educational setting, however it has lessons that can be applicable to everyday life. Being a mirror requires knowledge about the growth mindset and helping kids achieve it for themselves. I wish my teachers had used this method with me in the past because it seemed that more often than not, I felt like it was me vs. the classroom and learning, instead of me using the classroom and teachers to my benefit in order to learn.

I think feedback can be very helpful if used correctly and constructively, and harmful if used incorrectly. I love when feedback encourages people to see past their obstacles, and give them motivation to do better. Constructive criticism and using specific phrases along with 'not yet' can make a lasting difference in people's mindset- young or old.

Introduction

All About Me Hey! My name is Katie and I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma. When people say time flies by in college, they aren't kidding! I feel like it was just yesterday that I moved into the dorms freshman year, and now within a couple of months I will be moving on to something new. I am currently studying biopsychology as a pre-medical student. I really enjoy sciences so I have enjoyed almost all of my classes I have takes throughout undergraduate so far. I spent the summer studying for the MCAT, and am currently in the process of applying to medical school! This semester I am excited for my classes, but anxious about how they will turn out with all of them online. However, it is important to be flexible, especially in a pandemic, so I am hoping to make the most of it! Besides academics, I love playing volleyball and doing other activities with my friends. My junior year I was the president of the OU Women's Club Volleyball team, and enjoyed traveling to ...

Wikipedia Trail: From Elephant to Action Potential

Wikipedia Trail: From Elephant to Action Potential Elephant - Link I spent a lot of time in this class researching elephants and creating stories about them. So, it seemed only fitting to start my wikipedia trail with elephants as well. Elephant Cognition - Link In addition to just writing stories about elephants, I also touched on their social bonds and how intelligent the species is. From this article I learned that elephants are among the most altruistic animals on earth! Neuron - Link I am currently in a physiological psychology class, and have taken several other classes that involve the anatomy of the brain. So, when I saw neuron I had to click it because it goes along too well with topics I have been learning in my other classes this semester. Action Potential - Link Finally, I arrived at action potentials. Although small, action potentials are responsible for so much- including how I form thoughts and how I am able to type on my computer right now. This class has definitel...
