All About Me

Hey! My name is Katie and I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma. When people say time flies by in college, they aren't kidding! I feel like it was just yesterday that I moved into the dorms freshman year, and now within a couple of months I will be moving on to something new. I am currently studying biopsychology as a pre-medical student. I really enjoy sciences so I have enjoyed almost all of my classes I have takes throughout undergraduate so far. I spent the summer studying for the MCAT, and am currently in the process of applying to medical school! This semester I am excited for my classes, but anxious about how they will turn out with all of them online. However, it is important to be flexible, especially in a pandemic, so I am hoping to make the most of it!

Besides academics, I love playing volleyball and doing other activities with my friends. My junior year I was the president of the OU Women's Club Volleyball team, and enjoyed traveling to other schools and competing against other universities. Volleyball has always been a great outlet and I was glad to have been able to continue that passion throughout college. I also enjoy watching TV when I have downtime. Some of my favorite shows are Killing Eve, The Mandalorian, any HGTV show, and many others! Unless it's a horror show/movie, I will probably love it.

I also have a dog, named Blue, that I spend most of my time with. He is the sweetest, but kinda crazy, pup that helps me stay active throughout the year (especially while we are in quarantine). He will do just about anything for a scrap of food, and loves meeting new friends at the dog park. I got him as a puppy about 7 months ago, and he has been such a joy ever since! I'm looking forward to when more places open up after COVID goes away so I can go hiking and take him to more pet-friendly places.

  1. Hi Katie, I am also a senior and I know what you mean when you say that time flies. I wanted to say that your dog seems so cute. I love the name blue it is my favorite color and golden retrievers are one of my favorite breeds and I am a little obsessed to be honest. I know the MCAT is hard and I hope that it went well it is such a crazy test but I bet that it feels so good to be done with.

  2. Hi Katie,

We have so much in common! I am also Pre-Med and am actually just about to start studying for the MCAT! Crazy! Which medical schools are you applying to?

I also played both school and club volleyball growing up, so I love the sport and playing competitively!

Also, Blue might be the cutest dog I've ever seen! I am seriously obsessed! I am looking forward to getting to know you through your writing this semester.

  5. Hi Katie! Wow, you are so right! I am a senior too. I cannot believe it. Time flies when you are having fun! I took my MCAT this summer too. Best summer break ever am I right ;). That is so cool that you play volleyball!! I hate horror movies and shows too lol. Why do people like being scared? :( Your dog is so cute!

  6. There are so many pre-med and related majors in this class, Katie, and I am guessing everybody feels an even greater sense of purpose now in the pandemic. I can't remember any time in my life before when there has been so much medical news in the newspaper every day, and so much that we all need to learn (and how much we need the doctors and scientists to discover and teach us!). And look at your Blue growing up: he is adorable! Maybe he will make an appearance in some stories that you write for this class: adorable dogs are always welcome, both in real life, and also in their imaginary story lives too!

  7. Hello, I am also a science lover so school is not so bad except for the constant studying.. I hope all goes well in your medical journey after school!! Also, I am in love with your dog, it is seriously the cutest! My dream dog is a golden doodle and I will have one someday. But, sadly I feel as if I am still to busy for a dog between working full time and a full time student..

  8. Hey Katie, I'm glad to meet another fan of the Mandalorian! Did you know they're releasing the next season this October? I'm super excited, but also anxious at what they're going to do! Also, your dog is a super cutie, and I wish the best for you in your endeavors for medical school. I know trying to get into law school, for myself, is going to be difficult, but Pre-Med students are always on some x-games; so again, I wish you the best!

  9. Hi Katie! I am only a sophomore, but I would still agree with you that time flies. I'm so happy you're finished with the MCAT and working on med school applications - I am a Chemical Biosciences and Letters major, pre-med track also. I wish you best of luck going forward! I know this year is not what you were expecting senior year to look like, but I hope you still have a great year.

  10. Hey Katie! First of all, your pup is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. Seriously. I want a dog so bad, so I am incredibly jealous that you have one! I also relate to you on using sports as an outlet for the craziness of school. Soccer has always been a big part of my life and being able to compete in intramural soccer has been one of my favorite things about college. I hope that you get into the med school of your dreams and finish out senior year on a high note! Have a great semester!

  11. Hi Katie :)
I think it's awesome your degree is in biopsychology! I didn't even know that was a thing until now, but it sounds really cool. I admire people who can understand science like that since it's so different from how my brain works. Blue looks absolutely adorable! He's so cute, and I'm so glad he's helped you through the pandemic. I know he'll continue to keep you on your toes as he grows older, and he'll definitely listen to you brag about how you're totally going to smash getting into med school!

  12. Hi Katie!
What an awesome name for a major biopsychology. It must be cool and interesting having biopsychology as a major. I admire people who choose major like yours. Science is the key to a lot of thing in this world, so it's good that you enjoy everything about science. Your Dog, Blue looks so adorable. Both pictures of him are very cute. I can imagine how important it is to have a dog during the pandemic. I am pretty sure all the running that blue makes you do makes you more active and ready for the volleyball.

  13. Hi Katie,
I am also a senior at OU on the pre-med track, and I took my MCAT in June, so I completely feel your pain/excitement/exasperation! I wish you the best of luck during the interview process!! We're almost in the clear :) I think we have a lot in common because I also LOVE volleyball! I played a tonnnn of intramural sand volleyball the last few years... almost too much, but that's impossible!

  14. Hi Katie (and Blue!) What a sweet pup! My sister got a baby golden retriever in May and I'm absolutely obsessed with him and he's not even mine! My major is HES/pre PA so I understand the struggle of undergrad and the sciences. Even though it can be fun learning about all the different sides of science, it can also be a huuuge pain! I hope your MCAT turns out well, I know people always put so much pressure on themselves when taking those entrance exams. So remember to take a few deep breaths and hug your puppy!!

  15. Hello Katie!
I'm a senior as well. I can't agree with you more about how fast time has gone. I am the same. I can still remember everything that happened on my first day in the dorms. That's crazy! Tests like MCAT and the GRE freak me out. It's so much pressure. Good luck with getting into medical school. I love volleyball as well. I haven't played it in so long, but I enjoy it when I get the chance. OMG! Mandalorian is amazing! Are you ready for season 2? It's next week, and I'm super excited! Also, your doggie is so adorable.

  16. Hi Katie!

First off, I couldn't agree more about the sentiment that you mentioned about being a senior in college. I'm also a senior and I've been thinking about how time has been flying for the past couple of years. There are moments in time where I would either regret or wish that I could return to freshman year and do the things that I wished that I could've done when I was a freshman. However, that's not really a good way to think about it, so I look forward to the future! I wish you the best in your applications for medical school! I also took my MCAT in the past summer but I think I will be taking a small break before I apply to get my priorities straight. I look forward to read more from you!

  17. Hey Katie, it is very nice to meet you! I really like the two pictures you attached of your dog, Blue. He reminds me very much of my dog, Bailey. I know what you mean when you say that time has flown by in college. I am a senior as well and I feel like I just moved to Norman the other day!

  18. Hi again Katie!

I’ve never realized there was a biopsychology major; it sounds really intriguing! I hope you get into your first choice of med school. Volleyball is a really fun sport to play; although, I’m NOT great, but I like to casually play. It’s more fun on a beach! Do you have a favorite HGTV show? I used to be obsessed with House Hunters. Blue is so cute! It’s crazy to see how fast he has grown in seven months. Best of luck to you and hope you have a great senior year!

  19. Hi Katie, I am also a senior. I just finished applying to PA schools. It's a very nerve wracking thing to do. I'm anxiously waiting to hopefully get called back for interviews. Good luck with your applications! I hope you get into your schools. And I completely agree that college flies by super fast. It really does feel like it was just yesterday when it was my first day of college. Crazy!

  20. Hi Katie!
That is so awesome that you are applying to med school, I know that is probably so hard and takes a lot of work. I also agree that time in college definitely flies by. I am a junior and I feel like I just got to college at the same time. It is too crazy how fast the times goes by. Also your dogs are adorable! I love puppies and truly think that dogs are the best thing ever. I have three dogs at home and I love them so much.

  21. Hey Katie, congratulations on making it to your senior year! I am a junior and even I cannot believe how fast college goes. It is so cool that you are going into the medical field, I have so much respect for people who go into that profession. My sister started playing volleyball recently and it is my new favorite sport to watch in person. It pace of play is unreal and there is always action! Another funny commonality we have is that I also have a dog named Blue, I love him so much and would do anything for him. I hope you have a great rest of the semester and I cannot wait to read some of your work!

  22. Hi Kate! I loved reading your introduction post, they are my favorite to read. I am also a senior this year and wow, time does fly. It is crazy, especially after such a crazy year we have had and are still having. It is incredible that you are a pre-med student. That takes great dedication and loads of hours of studying. I am excited to see what you end of doing after going to med school. Your dogs are absolutely adorable. I love seeing everyones dogs every time they post it on their introduction post. I also love watching the HGTV network. I used to want to be an interior designer because of the shows I would watch. I loved reading your post. Great job.

Week 9 Story: Finding Freedom

Finding Freedom An orphan from birth, Kang always felt like an outcast in his African village. He had no last name, and therefore no title. No girls wanted to marry him and no men wanted to be associated with him. Although he remained polite and respectful to everyone he met, he could feel his resentment towards the village people grow the more they neglected him. As he grew older, he began to have thoughts of leaving his village. A new life surrounded by all new people became more appealing as the days passed by. However, they were the only village within miles of any other human civilization, and in order to go to a new village he would need to venture days through the wilderness. He finally worked up enough nerve and left in the morning.  Running away from the village- he never felt more free. It was as if he could run for hours without any pains or fears. Nightfall came and he found a large rock which to sleep by. He fell asleep peacefully but awoke to the sound of a lioness's
